    Additional Info -
The Killington Race Camp is a great way to improve your skiing. The camp uses a GS race format to teach the students how to make well-controlled, effective, efficient ski turns and link those turns smoothly.

There were 46 TCSC members in attendance last year. The other 40 or so students at the camp are in a similar age range and skiing ability as members of our club. There are usually 10 - 12 groups created at the start of the week based on skiing ability. There are about 6 or 7 skiers in each group. You'll have the same instructor all week. The lower level groups spend less time on race-specific topics and more time on turn mechanics and improving their free-skiing. The higher level groups spend more time on the race course running gates. Everyone spends some time running gates.

Why would you consider a race based camp if you don't plan on racing? It's all about effectiveness and cost. The reason most people are not skiing with the confidence, control and enjoyment that they seek is because their ski turns are not up to par. There is no better place to learn to make good ski turns than at a GS race camp. Anyone can go straight down the hill, but how effective are your turns?

Have you ever noticed the Olympic stars like Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin and Ted Ligety struggling with their turns? Hardly ever, right? At the Killington Camp, you'll be taught the same elements of coordination and timing that the Olympians and World Cup skiers employ. (Although it's unlikely you will end up in the Olympics. Sorry about that.)

While you are working on developing the proper movements and coordination associated with good turns, the instructors (especially in the lower groups) do NOT encourage speed. When your "turning issues" are corrected and you begin to employ a better technique, then additional speed becomes an option that YOU can choose based on your comfort level.

Whether you want to ski fast or slow, the ingredients for good turns are the same. You choose the speed you want to ski, but if you don't know how to make good turns, you're stuck at a skill level called the "intermediate rut" and your options are limited.

Attending the Killington Race Camp is a great way to get out of the "intermediate rut" and the price is a fraction of what it would be at "all-mountain" ski camps. There are camps in Colorado and California that do "all-mountain" training, but the cost is usually more than twice as much and that's before you buy a plane ticket, rental car and hotel room!

So Killington will teach you a lot of important concepts that you need to improve your "all-mountain" skiing. Overall, you'll have the opportunity to learn how to make great ski turns for a very reasonable price and have a lot of fun in the process. Racers and non-racers come back to this camp year-after-year to "tune-up" their skiing at the beginning of each season.

Who knows, you might find that you really like the racing part, too!

(Just to be clear, the "non-racers" who attend the RACE camp WILL spend some time running gates on a race course even if they are in the lowest group. But you are free to "bail-out" of any portion of the race camp that you want, and rejoin the class later. (Some years, when there is enough interest, there is a "non-race" option where there is no racing whatsoever. That may be a good option for some. Ask about it!)

Join your TCSC friends for another European Adventure!

This time, we will explore Zermatt in Switzerland. Zermatt is the highest winter sports area in the Alps with ski terrain at altitudes between 5,250' and 12,000'. That is 7,250' of vertical drop. The bold pyramid of the Matterhorn rises directly behind the town and is visible from much of the mountain's 360-kilometer trail system which connects two countries and three resort towns. The other side of the Matterhorn is in Italy, and one the greatest moments in a lifetime is skiing over the Theodul Pass and down into the Italian trail system. The world’s highest cableway opened for the 2019 season after 2.5 years construction work. The Matterhorn Glacier, at 12,739' is where you can ski year-round.

      Valentine's Day
    Feb. 14, 2020

    Details
Bristol is BACK! Ingrid and Marie will be welcoming all of you to go to Bristol Mountain for Valentines Day (so remember to wear your red underwear.)
We're going to change accommodations up a bit, just to save some effort, time, and money. Instead of serving morning coffee on the bus, bring your own thermos and coffee mug, or whatever morning beverage you prefer. We'll have a continental type breakfast for you.

Apres ski we can meet at the Bristol Bar for a beverage, then on the way home, we'll be serving cheese, crackers and munchies on the bus. Bring your beverage-of-choice in your carry-on bag. If you don't want it to freeze you can keep it in your ski bag and bring it in the lodge till we leave for home.

Dinner plans are in process, but we want to stop some place on the way home to pick up a prepared meal so we can eat it on the bus. It might be subs or some kind of take out dinner. This way we can get home faster. We're not sure of your cost yet, as we're still creating the day's plan, but it will be "bargain priced". Stay tuned for the price and more details as they develop.

There is current discussion with our fellow central New York ski clubs, Onondaga Ski Club and Finger Lakes Ski Club to have us all meet there on the same day, ski and have lunch together, and gather for happy hour at the end of our day. Planning is still underway, but this will be a first if the plan materializes. It will be a great day of skiing.

    Regarding the Epic Local Pass

You can purchase an Epic Local Pass and you will not need lift tickets for this trip. We have a special deal on an "Epic Local Pass" for TCSC trip goers. $719 and we each get a $50 Amazon gift card. This pass also works at Stowe and Okemo in Vermont and Mt. Sunapee in NH. And it works at many western resorts, too.

There are also Epic "day passes" available at a lesser cost. If you plan to ski 5 days, you can purchase the 5 day Epic pass for $485. The 6 day Epic pass is $565. Then for comparison, you can consider the prices $50 less because you will get a $50 Amazon card with either of those purchases.
Question: What if I buy a 6 day Epic pass and then only ski 5 days in Colorado?
Answer: Just go to Hunter Mountain or Okemo 1 day when you get back and use up the 6th day. (Or any mountain where the Epic pass works.)
Question: But can't I do the same thing with a 6 day lift ticket package?
Answer: NO. Lift ticket packages are limited to a specific date range. By the time you get home, they aren't valid any more.

For reference, a standard lift ticket package for our trip is $535 for 5 days and $599 for 6 days. However, if we drop below 10 lift ticket packages, we lose the group rate. Then the prices would be higher. So everyone should purchase either an Epic day pass or Epic Local Pass to avoid this situation.

To purchase your Epic Pass, go to www.winterskiandsport.com

    1. Click on "Products"
    2. Click on the "Epic Local Pass" or "Epic Day Pass" where it says "Buy Now"
    3. Complete the transaction.
    4. Then click the other "Buy Now" for the $27 insurance product that goes with the Epic Local Pass. (see the picture above on this page for clarification.)
    5. Complete that transaction.
If you are a veteran or if you are active military or retired from the military, you and your dependents should purchase your pass directly from Vail Resorts. Go to www.epicpass.com.

A TCSC "Trip Form" is available in the "Files Section" of our Meetup site. Here is a link to that page. http://www.meetup.com/triplecitiesskiclub/files/

Please scroll down to find the trip form.

    Payments

It is suggested that you purchase trip insurance to avoid losing money if you have to cancel. www.TravelGuard.com is one good source for trip insurance. Also Google "Travel Insurance" to find other sources. Please do your own research to find the best trip insurance for your needs. It is best to sign up for trip insurance within 2 weeks of paying the trip deposit so that pre-existing conditions are covered. (Some policies allow a 21 day window for that.)
