'Un-Hayride'

Enjoy a fall afternoon and evening in the country.

Jill and Pete Darling are inviting TCSC members to their property in Warren Center, Pa., for an afternoon of hiking or paddling and swimming on their pond followed by a wagon ride on country dirt roads.

When:

Saturday, Oct. 1. Come as early as 2 p.m. to swim, paddle, hike or just relax by a campfire with refreshments. Pete can take hikers on trails and Jill will supervise waterfront activities. Around 4:30 p.m., Pete will take a group of 12 people on a scenic, hour-long hayless wagon ride. If there are more people, we'll have another wagon ride around 5:30 pm. Afterward, return to the campfire for food and drink.

What to bring: 

• Canoes, kayaks, and a paddle board (for lightweights) are available, but you're welcome to bring your own watercraft. Bring life vests that can double as seat cushions on benches for the wagon ride.
• Bring food such as hot dogs and rolls, veggies and dip, snacks, cider, donuts, cheese tray, drinks other than alcohol. Water and S'Mores will be provided.
• Dress for the weather--warm jackets, hats, and gloves. It gets cool in the evenings at high elevation--10 degrees colder than the Binghamton area.
• Chairs.

How to get there:

960 Roy Jones Road, Warren Center, Pa. You'll see a large yellow farm house at the bottom of the dirt road when taking a left off of the hard road. That is the Darling Farm, but not your destination. GPS may say you've arrived, but keep going up the main dirt road to the sage green house with green shutters on the left and the large pond behind it. Park on the edge of the road/grassy yard.

Note: There is no cell service after Little Meadows. If you get lost, go back to Little Meadows and call Jill's home number. The Darling home is 3 miles from Whitetails Bar & Grill, Little Meadows. Turn right at the tavern and drive 3 miles from there.
